Special Commentary: Drug agents arrest Enage Family Scion

MAASIN CITY – A police team led by Regional Criminal Investigation and Detention Group inspector Ignacio Layugan arrested Manuel “Boyet” Enage IV at dawn last Saturday in what they claimed was a “buy bust” operation.
The team comprised of elements of the Presidential Drug Enforcement Agency and city police officers claimed that Enage was armed with a 22 caliber pistol when confronted in front of his residence.
Ignacio claimed they found four water sealed sachets of suspected “shabu” in his possession. He said they wanted to search the rest of the Enage premises but Attorney Manuel “Jun” Enage Jr. the suspect’s uncle had refused because this was not covered by their search warrant.
Ignacio said they left the Enage residence at around 6 a.m. with the young Enage who they said would be tested for drug use at their laboratory in Tacloban City. He was later released on bail pending the filing of charges aginst him in court.
SLT had difficulty getting information about the incident at first because the city and provincial PNP had denied knowledge of the police operation. Legal sources however questioned the timing of the raid which was on a Saturday when courts were closed and judges were hard to find.
They claimed the timing was dubious but did not elaborate.
Police sources claim they had been monitoring the suspect for some time and had allegedly witnessed him selling drugs to two female police agents at a local night club before making the arrest.
The incident sent shock waves throughout the city long noted for its conservatism and a strong message to parents - that not all is well in the City by the Bay.(By ANTHONY KINGS)
