“God will guide us to victory” - Victor Lerias

MAASIN CITY - The first serious political salvo of the opposition against the entrenched and seemingly unbeatable Mercado dynasty was delivered last Friday by Engineer Victor Lerias who said they would win because Southern Leyteños wanted good governance.
In his e-mailed letter to SLT Editor Antonio Reyes, Lerias asked:
“Is our lack of monetary resource enough to quell our desire to offer better service to our people? Shall we wait until our beloved province becomes another Maguindanao and the destruction of our province becomes irreversible? Shall we wait until the powers of poverty shall have bound our peoples’ hands and feet?”
Lerias who was reacting to claims that they lacked the resources and organization to wage a successful campaign for the city and provincial leadership said:
“The multitude of Southern Leyteños armed with the cause of righteousness are invincible to any resources that our adversaries will use against us.
“Besides, we are not alone in this struggle. For there is a just God who looks after our beloved province and who will rise up our fellow southern Leytenos to help carry the burden of this struggle and catapult us to victory. We will not be out of resources if we make use of those means which God has placed in our power.”
Engineer Lerias in an earlier interview with SLT said this would be the first election he would take an active role in and campaign hard against the abuses of the current leadership and the dangerous trend it is setting.
“If we do not oppose the current leadership now - who will?” he concluded. For full text of Engineer Lerias’s letter look below. (By ANTHONY KINGS)

We will win - Lerias

People tell us that we do not have the resources to cope with rich and formidable political adversaries. Is our lack of monetary resource enough to quell our desire to offer better services to our people? Shall we wait until our beloved province becomes another Maguindanao? Shall we wait when these present leaders will have made the destruction of our province irreversible? Shall we wait until the powers of poverty shall have bound our peoples' hands and feet?
We will not be out of resources if we make use of those means which God has placed in our power. The multitude of Southern Leytenos, armed with the cause of righteousness are invincible by any resources that our adversaries will use against us. Besides, we are not alone in this struggle. There is a just God who looks after the future of this beloved province and who will raise up our fellow southern Leytenos to help carry the burden of this struggle and catapult us to victory.
